| FOUNDED in 1898 by Leonard E. Rodell, the present Managing Directors grandfather, Rodell Steeplejacks remains a family business to this day. In the early 1900s brick and steel chimneys littered the skyline of industrial Luton where booming textile and engineering firms provided Rodells with its core business.
As the business grew, Rodells contracted work throughout London and the home counties and, during both the World Wars, the companys considerable rigging skills were in great demand in camouflaging government and industrial buildings.
With the 1950s came the Clean Air Acts and the introduction of more efficient fuels. This led to a significant reduction in the size and number of boiler chimneys and to a general diversification throughout the Steeplejack Industry.
In 1975 Rodell Steeplejacks joined the National Federation of Master Steeplejacks and Lightning Conductor Engineers and became a limited company in 1976.
In more recent years, Rodells have expanded operations in the design and installation of lightning conductors, general scaffolding and high level rigging as well as specialist construction and specialist demolition work. The amalgamation of our offices and yard at new premises in Cell Barnes, St Albans, in 1994 enabled us to restructure the company, greatly facilitating day-to-day operations and resulting in improved efficiency and standards of service.
During our first 100 years, Rodell Steeplejacks have taken on all manner of projects - from rescuing a parrot from a 50 foot tree (sic) to a 14 month scaffolding contract for Euro Disney, Paris. In the new millennium, we will continue to give a personal service to all our customers throughout the UK, however small or large the project.
